Blacksmithing Classes

This class offers a unique opportunity to learn the use of a coal-fired forge and bellows while enjoying the beautiful campus at the historic Poplar Grove Plantation.

In this four-hour class, students will have the opportunity to try seven to ten basic metal working techniques and leave with a finished product they make. The options of items to make are a fire poker, S-hook, J-hook, dinner bell, or a candle holder. Any experience level welcome. Must be 18.*

The cost of the class is $175 per person. Payment in full is required to reserve a space. Classes are taught on a monthly basis.

Class size is four people. If you are interested in larger groups that can be accommodated as well; however, the class will be longer than four hours.

Studio time will be available after taking the initial class at which point students are able to work on any project they would like with the smith available for assistance.
